Dwarf vegetables exist, where dwarfism is caused by some known mutations.
Dwarf vegetables are becoming popular for growing home, in a balcony or in small containers and when people have small gardens.
We have developed Micro-Tom as a model system for genetic modifications and mutagenesis due to its small size (convenient for research) and short generation time (less than 3 month from seed to seed). I attach a publication from my lab.
Dwarfism has been more broadly studied in cereals— wheat dwarfism was the main cause for the green revolution of the 60’s that enabled to obtain high yield under high fertilizer treatment. The genetic basis is known and the mechanism is through sensing of Gibberlin (a plant hormone responsible for cell elongation).
These are the Rht genes or Gai (Gibberellic acid insensitivity) genes.
